Reverie is an immersive experience that invites the public to come and sit within a sculptural environment planted with wildflowers, flax and grasses. Using sound, scent and form the intention is to invite contemplation on the importance of sustainable fashion and how we can protect and support pollinators such as the honey bee.
The sounds that can be heard within the piece include some new vibrational sounds and communications of the honey bee recorded and discovered by scientist Dr. Martin Bencsikās team which include: queen quacking, queen tooting, whooping signals, worker pipes and dorsoventral abdominal signals. Perfumers Haeckels have created a site specific scent using the essential oils of the wildflowers planted within Reverie and celebrated BBC DJ and broadcaster Nick Luscombe has curated a bespoke playlist which harmonises with the soundscape and installation.
The installation has since been re-created for Hoare Lea headquarters in the UK, the company specialise in acoustic engineering and work in partnership with Wolfgang Buttress on many projects.
Reverie then travelled to The Eden Project in Cornwall, UK where the plants were grown on site and the sound linked to a local Eden beehive.
