Rise, 2011, Belfast
Concept
This is the winning design from an international competition heralding a new dawn for Belfast.
Standing at 37.5 metres tall, a geodesic sphere is suspended within a larger 30 metre diametre sphere by discreet, pre tensioned, galvanised wires.
The sculpture can be seen in the round from any angle; it welcomes views from all vistas and political and religious persuasions. The structural supports make reference to the marshlands which previously grew here.
